If your goal was to provoke even more Americans to buy firearms who weren’t otherwise thinking about doing so, you couldn’t come up with a much better strategy than the one employed by our senescent commander-in-chief: demonize half the population while promising to outlaw one of he most popular firearms in the country.

We don’t stop here. I am determined to ban assault weapons in this country! Certainly. I’ve done it before. And I will do it again.

This after the House passed an “assault weapons” ban bill and the only thing stopping it in the Senate is one, possibly two two “centrist” Democrats who’ve shown they can be rolled. If anyone thought that anti-gun Democrats would somehow be satisfied with the passage of the laughable Cornyn-Murphy Do Something! post-Uvalde gun control bill, we have some crypto investments we’d like to talk to you about.

Meanwhile, Americans chalked up the 37th straight month of adjusted background checks (the best measure of gun sales) above one million in August as measured by the NSSF. And sales show no signs of tailing off below what appears to be a new floor.

As the NSSF’s Mark Oliva told us . . .

August’s figures show there is a clear and steady desire by the American public for lawful firearm ownership. Consistently throughout the year, background check figures for firearm sales at retail have put 2022 on pace to be the third strongest year, behind only the outsized years witnessed in 2020 and 2021.

August’s figures of 1,286,816 background checks was slightly ahead of July’s that came in at 1,233,115. This also marks 37 months straight of background checks exceeding 1 million.

Americans are choosing their gun rights by the millions each month while gun control politicians talk only of efforts to deprive them of their Constitutional rights. They are voting with their wallets. Politicians would be wise to heed to will of Americans lawfully exercising their Constitutional rights and instead focus their efforts on locking up criminals that misuse firearms.

Here’s the NSSF’s press release announcing the numbers. . .

The August 2022 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 1,286,816 is a decrease of 3.1 percent compared to the August 2021 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,328,518.

For comparison, the unadjusted August 2022 FBI NICS figure 2,450,616 reflects a 9.1 percent decrease from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 2,697,234 in August 2021.

The adjusted August 2022 figure totals more than a million making this August the third strongest for the month on record exceeded only by August 2020 and 2021.

Please note: Twenty-five states currently have at least one qualified alternative permit, which under the Brady Act allows the permit-holder, who has undergone a background check to obtain the permit, to purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer without a separate additional background check for that transfer. The number of NICS checks in these states does not include these legal transfers based on qualifying permits and NSSF does not adjust for these transfers.

The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks and permit rechecks used by states for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases. NSSF started subtracting permit rechecks in February 2016.

Though not a direct correlation to firearms sales, the NSSF-adjusted NICS data provide an additional picture of current market conditions. In addition to other purposes, NICS is used to check transactions for sales or transfers of new or used firearms.

It should be noted that these statistics represent the number of firearm background checks initiated through the NICS. They do not represent the number of firearms sold or sales dollars. Based on varying state laws, local market conditions and purchase scenarios, a one-to-one correlation cannot be made between a firearm background check and a firearm sale.
