When war comes to town.
The eFP Battle Group in Latvia consists of troops from various NATO member countries, which are rotated on a regular basis. These troops work together with the Latvian Armed Forces to provide a visible and credible deterrence against potential threats. The Battle Group operates under the framework of NATO’s collective defense principle, as outlined in Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.
The eFP Battle Group in Latvia is just one of several similar multinational formations established by NATO in the Baltic states and Poland as part of the eFP initiative. These Battle Groups are relatively small but highly capable units, typically consisting of a few thousand troops equipped with armored vehicles, artillery, and other necessary equipment.
